Southeast Gulf of America



.SYNOPSIS...Tropical Storm Bertha is near 29.4N 88.3W, or about

45 nm ENE of the mouth of the Mississippi River at 5 AM EDT, and

is moving west at 4 kt. Maximum sustained winds are 45 kt with

gusts to 55 kt, and the minimum central pressure is 998 mb. Bertha

will move near or along the northern Gulf Coast during the next

couple of days. Bertha is forecast to weaken to a remnant low

inland NE Texas Thu night and dissipate Fri afternoon. In the

wake of Bertha, high pressure will become established over the NE

Gulf providing for light to gentle winds over the forecast waters

through the next several days.

.SUN NIGHT...N winds 10 kt in the evening, becoming variable

less than 5 kt. Seas 2 to 4 ft.



Within 200 nm east of the coast of Florida



.SYNOPSIS...A surface trough extending from near 29N65W to

25N66W  and to the Mona Passage will continue westward reaching

near 72W by early this evening, then to the Bahamas Thu afternoon

and to central and South Florida Fri. Scattered showers and

thunderstorms will accompany the trough. Moderate to fresh winds

and moderate seas are expected on either side of the trough axis.

Fresh to locally strong trade winds are expected offshore

Hispaniola, including approaches to the Windward Passage through

the forecast period. Moderate or weaker winds along with moderate

seas are forecast elsewhere E of the Bahamas through Fri, except S

of 23N E of about 76W where pulses of fresh trades are expected

through late Sat. A cold front will approach the waters east of

northern Florida Sat night, and perhaps move across the waters

north of 29N west of 70W through Sun night preceded by mostly

moderate to fresh southwest to winds.
