The National Weather Service in Lake Charles has issued a



* Special Marine Warning for...

  Waters from Lower Atchafalaya River to Intracoastal City LA from 20

  to 60 NM...



* Until 700 PM CDT.



* At 606 PM CDT, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing

  waterspouts was located near South Marsh Island 99, or 63 nm

  southwest of Point Au Fer Island, moving northeast at 10 knots.



  HAZARD...Waterspouts and wind gusts 34 knots or greater.



  SOURCE...Radar.



  IMPACT...Waterspouts can easily overturn boats and create locally

           hazardous seas. Small craft could be damaged in briefly

           higher winds and suddenly higher waves.



* Locations impacted include...

  Eugene Island 224, South Marsh Island 78, South Marsh Island 61,

  South Marsh Island 99, and South Marsh Island 76.



PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...



Thunderstorms can produce sudden waterspouts. Waterspouts can easily

overturn boats and create locally hazardous seas. Seek safe harbor

immediately.



Frequent lightning is occurring with this storm. If caught on the

open water stay below deck if possible, keep away from ungrounded

metal objects.
