The National Weather Service in New Orleans has issued a



* Special Marine Warning for...

  Lake Borgne...

  Lake Pontchartrain and Lake Maurepas...



* Until 200 AM CDT.



* At 1202 AM CDT, a cluster of severe thunderstorms capable of

  producing waterspouts was located along a line extending from 6 nm

  northeast of Eden Isle to near Kenner, moving southeast at 20

  knots.



  HAZARD...Waterspouts, wind gusts in excess of 50 knots, and small

           hail.



  SOURCE...Radar.



  IMPACT...Waterspouts can quickly form and capsize boats...damage

           vessels and oil rigs...and create suddenly higher waves.

           Boats could suffer signifficant structual damage in high

           winds. Small craft could capsize in suddenly higher

           waves.



* Locations impacted include...

  Yscloskey, Lake Pontchartrain/Lake Maurepas, Orleans Marina,

  Rigolets, Lake Borgne, The Mid Point Of The Causeway Bridge,

  Kenner, Eden Isle, and Mandeville.



PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...



Waterspouts can move onshore as a tornado! Boaters should avoid

waterspouts and never navigate near them. Move to safe harbor or seek

shelter in a sturdy building immediately until the threat passes.



These storms may produce large, destructive hail that can cause

signifficant damage boats and vessels. Do not venture out into these

storms! Seek safe harbor immediately!
