GALE WIND WARNING 5 FOR SOUTHEASTERN AREA



IMPACT

This is a dangerous weather event that includes cyclonic conditions. It can

lead to excessive ship movements including severe roll, pitch, and yaw, leading

to reduced ship vessel control.



ACTION

Mariners should take early and adequate evasive action, activate ship safety

plans, check cargo securing arrangements, and if possible, avoid the area.



SITUATION AT 011800UTC

Vigorous flow associated with low 984hPa near 34S153E to trough near 36S150E.

Forecast low 987hPa near 33S153E to trough near 37S152E at 020000UTC, low

987hPa near 32S155E to trough near 37S151E at 020600UTC, low 990hPa near

32S158E to trough near 35S155E at 021200UTC, and low 989hPa near 33S161E to

trough near 35S159E 34S154E at 021800UTC.



AREA AFFECTED

Bounded by 30S153E 29S158E 33S163E 39S157E 38S149E 30S153E.



FORECAST

Southerly quarter winds within 120nm west of trough, turning southeasterly

quarter within 240nm east of trough, turning clockwise within 180nm of low.

Winds speed 30/40 knots, increasing to 34/47 knots within 180nm of low. Rough

to very rough seas, rising to high within 180m of low. Moderate to heavy swell.
