WTAU01 ABRF 090657 IDQ20008 SECURITE OCEAN WIND WARNING FOR METAREA 10 Issued by the Australian Bureau of Meteorology Tropical Cyclone Warning Centre at 0657 UTC 9 JANUARY 2026 GALE WARNING FOR NORTH EASTERN AREA SITUATION At 0600 UTC a Tropical Low was centred within 35 nautical miles of latitude fourteen decimal five south (14.5S) longitude one hundred and forty eight decimal two east (148.2E) Recent movement : slow moving Maximum winds : 35 knots Central pressure: 994 hPa The low is expected to develop into a tropical cyclone in the next 18 to 24 hours. AREA AFFECTED Within 120 nautical miles in NE quadrant and within 120 nautical miles in SE quadrant and within 90 nautical miles in SW quadrant and within 45 nautical miles in NW quadrant. FORECAST Maximum winds to 35 knots near the centre increasing to 40 knots by 0000 UTC 10 January. Winds above 34 knots within 120 nautical miles in NE quadrant from 1200 UTC 9 January and within 120 nautical miles in SE quadrant and within 90 nautical miles in SW quadrant from 0000 UTC 10 January and within 45 nautical miles in NW quadrant from 0600 UTC 10 January with rough seas and moderate swell.
